The Boundless Voice

Re-imagine voice as empty space through which soul can dance

Bisan Toron: Voice Creatures

Rooted in classical vocal technique and motivated by her comprehensive studies in Sufism at Suluk Academy. Bisan's embodied approach focuses on arcane sounding rather than traditional singing. Her work is appropriate for seasoned singers and beginners alike.

Her curriculum entitled ‘Voice Creatures’ supports the embodied sounding of deeply held impulses and emotions in the body through the exploration of the myriad colors and nuances of the voice.

“In Bisan Toron, I found the teacher that I had only read about in books—one whose intuitive guidance, vitality, deep commitment to her students, and keen sense of knowing helped me to expand into something bigger, fuller, and more true than I ever could have allowed myself to imagine… Bisan has the rare ability to recognize what is calling from within us, and she offers a joyous, liberating approach to draw out and externalize what wants to be seen through free-form vocal improvisation and connection to breath. In working with Bisan, I rediscovered my voice, and as a result, I was able to break patterns and habits that years of therapy wasn’t able to resolve.”

— Sheila Burgel, WFMU DJ / Songwriter

“As an esoteric voice guide and visionary “arche-polyphonist,” Bisan Toron invites students to unravel their authentic mystery by exploring their voice as a site of overlapping dimensions–carving out a unique sonic calligraphy through sacred sound, unleashed breath, kinesthetic provocations, and alternate vocal states of being and remembrance. Reverberating with the textured frequency of archetypal sound, enchanting performer Bisan Toron sublimely sculpts the metaphysical ecology of the unadulterated voice–our truth thermometer, syncing us with the field of cosmic resonance and divine communion.”

“I came to Bisan’s 3-month practicum, ostensibly, to reconnect with my voice after a destructive rupture following classical training. Privately, I desired spiritual healing—the reunion of my body with my true self—as I’d long sensed that authentic voicing was the missing piece in my journey to live peaceably with trauma. Bisan’s guidance far exceeded my hopes. That I became a markedly better singer seems the least consequential—though certainly happy—result; I learned to listen to and voice the inner dimensions of self that I had avoided confronting, producing wholeness, peace, and new sounds I couldn’t have imagined making before. I now use Bisan’s techniques for nervous system healing, as well as better singing practices. With the highest possible recommendation, I urge not only singers looking to leap forward in their vocal skills and creativity, but any person seeking mental and physical healing from trauma to consider working with Bisan.”
